POINTS
This child is GOD…who GOVERNS
Read the following passages and consider God’s sovereignty over human governments...Gn 45.4-9; 1 Kgs 11.26-40; Dan 2.21, 4.17; Ps 2.1-12; Mt 28.18; Col 1.15-16; Rev 1.5
o Discuss how God’s sovereignty should affect our view of and response to the current state of unrest, injustice, evil, etc. in our government and various world governments.
Read Romans 13.1-7
o Do you struggle with submitting to the government? If so why or in what ways?
o Discuss some of the current issues that our government has made permissible that God would prohibit.
- Do you know where in the Bible God has prohibited these acts?
- Would you be willing to suffer the loss of property or arrest for obeying God over the government?
o Do you currently vote on local, state and national issues? If not why?
o Do you consider the issues you vote on from a biblical perspective?
o Discuss the importance of Christian involvement in the government. Do you think this may be one of the ways God “governs?”
This child is GOD…who COUNSELS
Read Job 12.13; Ps 16.7, 33.11, 73.23-26, 119.24; Is 28.29, 46.8-10; Jer 32.18-19; Jn 14.15-17, 14.26, 15.26, 16.7 [“Helper” can also be translated “Counselor”]
o Who do you go to most often for counsel? If not God why?
o Do you primarily seek God’s counsel in times of crisis and desperation or do you also seek Him regularly for wisdom and direction? Why?
o When and How do you draw near to God? Is it daily through the Bible and prayer? If not why?
o What changes could you make to meet with God more often in 2016?
o Challenge the members of your Life Group to develop a daily devotional plan for 2016 that you can each mutually hold one another accountable to.
