Jn 13.1-20

PATH

Jesus’ SERVICE to others should lead us to SERVE one another

POINTS

Read Mark 2.21-34 and consider HOW and WHERE Jesus served others in this passage.

HOW

o   Discuss the significance of Jesus’ service to others through both the teaching of God’s Word and the healing by God’s Spirit. Does one seem to be complimentary maybe even necessary to the other? Why or why not?

o   Discuss and consider how your Christian experience would be lacking if you only received spiritual teaching but lacked any sort of tangible “healing” [emotionally, mentally, relationally, physically] or visa-versa. Do you think this would cause discontentment and unfulfilment in your life as a Christian? Why or why not?

o   Discuss the ways that you individually and as a group corporately can help to ensure you are served well in both the teaching [Bible study and other Christian reading, podcasts] and healing you receive [measuring and transforming of our mental-emotional-relational-physical state of being according to our faith in the Word and power of God].

WHERE

o   Notice how Jesus started His public service to others: synagogue [church], “believers” home, community. Do you think this order was intentional? Why or why not?

o   Discuss the significance of starting our service with God’s people then extending that service out to our broader community. How does this manner of service provide greater health, strength and success for the church?

o   Are you engaged in service in all of these areas? If so where and if not why?

Read Mark 2.35-39 and notice the RESULT of Jesus’ service to others.

RESULT

o   Discuss some of the spiritual and practical reasons for why “everyone” was looking for Jesus?

o   Do you think it was a waste of Jesus’ time to have served those who didn’t receive Him as their Savior? Why or why not?

o   Based on Jesus’ example in Mark specifically and the evidence of the Bible broadly, do you think God wants local churches to have a similar impact as Jesus?  Are we? What can we do more of or differently? Are you willing to help? How?

o   Encourage and strengthen one another with the Word and prayer that you and then we might continue to grow in our service like Jesus!

PONDER

Meditate on Matthew 20.20-28 and consider how our desire for “greatness” in life is only achieved through lowly service not respected positions.
