THE HOLY SPIRIT
God’s Provision for Our Mission
Colossians 3.1-4
(06.05.16)
PATH
The Holy Spirit EMPOWERS you when He RESURRECTS and RESIDES in you
POINT
RESURRECTING Power
· Read John 3.1-8…consider the power of the “wind” and discuss why that is likened to the work of the Holy Spirit in Salvation
· Read Colossians 2.12…discuss other instances in the Bible of “the powerful working of God”
· Read Ephesians 2.4-6…consider and try to imagine the power of God that “made us alive”, “raised us up” and “seated us” in the heavens with Jesus
· Read Romans 6.4…discuss other instances in the Bible of the power of God’s glory
In light of God’s awesome power to give “new life”, discuss its effects in your life. How have you changed? Where are you struggling? Why are you struggling? What should you do?
PONDER
Meditate on Romans 6 this week and ask God to renew your thinking and empower your living.
POINT
RESIDING Power
· Read 1 Chronicles 29.10-13…consider that God is the source of and controls all of the power in the heavens and on earth and gives it how and when He pleases
· Read Luke 1.35…notice with God the Holy Spirit comes the power of God the Most High
· Read John 1.32-33…discuss the significance of God the Holy Spirit “remaining” on Jesus
· Read Luke 4.1-2…consider how great a temptation would be in your life if it came directly from the devil himself not just demons. Now consider, that Jesus defeated every temptation by the devil personally with the Holy Spirit’s power. Discuss how and where you are experiencing the Holy Spirit’s power in temptations and where you’re not. Why do you think you are in some areas and not in others?
· Read Luke 4.14…consider and discuss the significance of Jesus beginning His ministry “in the power of the Spirit”. Do you think Jesus ever served, did “ministry”, outside of the power of the Spirit? Why or Why not? Do you do ministry without the power of the Spirit? Why and how?
· Read Luke 24.44-49; Acts 1.4-5…In light of Luke chapter 4, does Jesus’ command to the disciples to “stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high” before they enter into “ministry” make more sense? Why or why not?
· Acts 1.8…notice the order of events that Jesus describes; “you will receive power” and then “you will be my witnesses.” Is this order significant to you as you live your life as a Christian? How do you prepare yourself daily to experience God the Holy Spirit’s power within you so that He can demonstrate His power through you to those around you?
