Gospel BASICs
Prayer
Read Exodus 33.11
- Do you consider God your friend? Why or why not?
- How is a conversation with a friend different from that with a stranger or acquaintance?
- Do you speak with God as a friend? Why or why not?
Read 1 Timothy 2.5-6; Hebrews 10.19-21
- Have you considered lately the price Jesus paid to give you the privilege to pray? How should His sacrifice affect your prayer life?
Read Psalm 66.18; Proverbs 28.9; James 4.3; 1 Peter 3.7
- Would you reward someone who knowingly or unknowingly brought harm to themselves or others?
- Discuss what kinds of things hinder prayer.
- Does it seem as if God is not answering your prayers?
- Have you considered whether or not you may be giving Him reasons too?If so, what actions should you take?
Read Luke 11.2, 9-13
- Do you see God as a loving heavenly Father? Why or why not?
- How should a view of God as a loving father affect your personal communication and relationship with Him?
Read Matthew 21.22; James 1.5-6; Hebrews 11.1; Ephesians 2.8
- According to these passages we must pray with the faith [assurance & conviction] that God gives us as a gift.
- With this perspective, discuss the difference between our “wishful” thinking and God’s “gift” of “assurance.”
- How would this difference affect your ability to “believe” you will receive what you ask for?
Read John 15.7; 1 John 5.14-15; Matthew 6.9-10 & 26.39
- According to these passages as we “abide” in Jesus we grow in our ability to know, desire, ask and believe that “His will” will be done.
- Discuss how this view might affect your understanding and approach to prayer.
